After my post about my struggle with continuing to do theater, a friend reached out and started talking to me about why they gave it up, and after a few minutes, I felt like I had to record the conversation in some way. My friend wanted to remain anonymous, so we opted for a written version of what we talked about. I said at the end of the last piece I wrote that I think it’s important we all talk about these things with each other, because if nothing else, it’s a welcome change from the sometimes unrelenting “You’re killing it!” narrative on social media.
