Why Adam Shouldn't Win Idol (Gays, I'm Talking to You)

Lots of exciting things have been happening in the world of reality television.  I was so happy that Joan Rivers won The Celebrity Apprentice.  What are the odds that the reason I started watching in the first place would turn out to keep me tuned in the entire season (Oh wait, that's called--the producers weren't stupid enough to let that cow leave before they milked her dry) and Helen won The Biggest Loser, meaning I finally am not happy with a Biggest Loser winner--I knew the day would come.

Nothing, however, has gotten me as riled up as the cover of Entertainment Weekly.  They put Adam Lambert on the cover, and right beneath his photo, they put this sentence--

"And he MIGHT be gay!"

Um, might?  I'm sorry.  Isn't he the same guy they found photos of kissing other guys WHILE IN DRAG?  I'm thinking "might" is a bit weak of a word.

Besides, Broadway.com has been doing interviews with some of his theater friends, and from what I can gather, not only is he gay, but shocker, he's okay with being gay.

And this is why I think one of two things should happen--either he should lose, or the gay people who have made American Idol such a hit should stop watching.

Because either Adam Lambert has decided to not bring up that he's gay in the hopes of continuing to win the votes of people in Iowa or the producers of American Idol have decided he can't talk about being gay or it'll cost him ratings.

And it's not that they don't let contestants talk about their personal lives.  Notice that they drag out Danny's dead wife every chance they get, and nobody's trying to suppress the fact that Kris has a wife.  So why can't Danny talk about whatever special someone might or might not be in his life?

My friend Trevor mentioned that people should be able to come out in their own time, but my issue is that I think he IS out and now he's trying to downplay that, which is just downright shameful.

And if the producers of American Idol aren't allowing gay contestants to speak freely about that, then something should be done about it.  I remember the producer once saying that they had to kick one of the many people they've kicked off the show for taking dirty photos or some such thing because "it's a family show."  Actually, it's not.  It's a talent show.  Keep in mind, they'll put eighteen teenage unwed mothers on the show, but a gay guy offends their morality.  I'm not saying the unwed mothers are immoral; I'm just saying you can't pick and choose what Catholic Neilsen families will put up with and what they won't.

The bigger problem here is the white elephant that's not being spoken of--American Idol is saying that America will not accept a gay Idol.  As a sidenote, can I say that I'm sick of people coming out of the closet AFTER they've lost fame--clearly to try and suck some more attention out of People magazine.

Sorry Lance, it would have been ballsy to come out WHILE in N'Sync, not so much after the fact.

All this just makes me angry, but it isn't why Adam shouldn't win Idol.  He shouldn't win because he's not a viable pop music star, and that's what the competition is trying to find.  He's also not a musician, as Kris is, hence why I think Kris should win.

That's all.

A List of People Who Can Go to Hell Now That I Can't Have Elizabeth Warren

So today was a rough day for everybody who isn't a @#$%-ing #$%hole. Let's just start there. If that upsets you, by all means, go straight to hell. This entire rant is going to be exactly what it sounds like. I am mad and I am going to exercise my right to BLOG ABOUT IT LIKE IT'S 1995, SO BUCKLE UP, BUTTERCUP. I really don't even know where to start, so let's just jump right in with the first person who comes to mind. Bloomberg, go to hell.  You really didn't have anything specific to do with today, but you can just go to hell for spending an ungodly amount of money on literally nothing.  I mean, you could have lit millions of dollars on fire and at least warmed the hands of the homeless, but instead, you made tv stations across the country that are already owned by Conservatives rich, so kudos to you and go to hell. Amy Klobuchar, I STUCK UP FOR YOU AMY.  I got into FIGHTS on SOCIAL MEDIA while DEFENDING your sorry, self-interested ass.  You know

Theater and the Outbreak

After last week's interview, a representative from a theater that recently experienced the results of opening too soon reached out to speak with me. I want to thank this person for coming forward in the hopes that it'll change some minds about what's safe and what isn't when it comes to the performing arts. Here's the interview: ME:  So this wasn't a full production or-- THEM:  No. It was us trying to do a little something for friends and donors. ME:  Who is 'us?' THEM:  The board of _____. ME:  And how long have you been on the board? THEM:  Three years. ME:  What was this going to be? THEM:  There's a, uh, beautiful park here in town, and we wanted to do an outdoor performance of a Shakespeare as a benefit, because, as you know, theaters are having a hard time right now paying the bills. We checked with the local government and the health department for the state to make sure we were doing everything the way we needed to in order to keep everyone s

People You Know Are More Important Than People You Don't Know

This post is in response to arguing with people--straight and gay alike--about a certain celebrity, whether or not she's an ally, if she's pandering, if pandering matters, and whether or not I'm an asshole. The last part is probably an enthusiastic "Yes" but let's reflect on this for a bit anyway without actually giving more time to an argument about a person none of us know, which is a crucial part of what I want to talk about. People you know are more important than people you don't know. I realize it's tricky in an age where we've never been closer or more engaged to our celebrities to keep in mind that we do not know them, they are not our friends, and while we may love them and stan and feel like we're attacked when they're attacked-- That is not true. That is not real. They are in no tangible way connected to us. Now, as someone who is obsessed with pop culture, I get that it's a little hypocritical for me to be making
