Dissecting the Focus on Family Commercial

I watched the Superbowl "Focus on Family" advertisement.

Now, I have a few questions:

1) What is this commercial supposed to be about? I know it's supposed to get me to google these people and check out their website, but isn't a commercial supposed to persuade you of something? The only thing I'm convinced of is that this kid and his mom probably made out at some point in his life.

2) What does this have to do with their controversial stance on abortion? Babies are cute so don't abort them? Is that the pitch? Babies can grow up and become professional athletes and give all their money to their moms after they make out with them?

3) Was that tackling thing supposed to be funny? Because it was way funnier in the Betty White commercial. Betty White's commercial was like when one person makes a joke and it's really funny, and this ad was like when someone else tries to tack on a less funny joke on top of the funny joke. It just didn't work.

Personally, I don't know why Pro-Choice people would be so upset over this ad. If I were Pro-Life and I saw a ridiculous commercial like this, I would probably change my views just so as not to be aligned with the morons who came up with this commercial.

Just a thought.

Theater and the Outbreak

After last week's interview, a representative from a theater that recently experienced the results of opening too soon reached out to speak with me. I want to thank this person for coming forward in the hopes that it'll change some minds about what's safe and what isn't when it comes to the performing arts. People You Know Are More Important Than People You Don't Know

This post is in response to arguing with people--straight and gay alike--about a certain celebrity, whether or not she's an ally, if she's pandering, if pandering matters, and whether or not I'm an asshole. The last part is probably an enthusiastic "Yes" but let's reflect on this for a bit anyway without actually giving more time to an argument about a person none of us know, which is a crucial part of what I want to talk about. People you know are more important than people you don't know. I realize it's tricky in an age where we've never been closer or more engaged to our celebrities to keep in mind that we do not know them, they are not our friends, and while we may love them and stan and feel like we're attacked when they're attacked-- That is not true.
