I'm a little...appalled.
A woman adopts a child from a Siberian orphanage. The child starts to show aggressive and violent behavior. The mother sends him back to Russia after a year with a letter and some crayons.
Wow, isn't this just a coup for the American image?
Now, Russians are freezing adoptions to America because they say other instances have occurred where children have been abused and even murdered after being adopted and taken to Americans.
How bad is it when RUSSIA doesn't want to send their children here rather than let them stay in a Siberian orphanage?
I have major issues with this adoptive mother.
For one thing, in my mind, an adoption is the same as actually having a child. One day I hope to adopt, and if my kid turns out to be excessively violent, I will deal with that because they will be my child. The language that this woman used in her letter was absolutely repulsive. She said that the child was given up after being with an alcoholic mother. Obviously, the child was going to have problems, because of that and the huge transition that is a late-in-childhood adoption.
She spoke of the child as if he were a gift she was returning to the mall. There was absolutely no remorse, or any sense of responsibility for the child despite the fact that she had taken on the job of being his mother.
Not only do I think this woman should be ashamed of herself, I think someone should look into the welfare of the children she has now. This perpetuates the idea that an adopted child is not the same as a biological child. And why would this woman have gone to such extremes to get a child if she wasn't aware that perhaps these children needed adopting BECAUSE of their situations and the problems that they might face.
How is this child going to have any hope of adoption now? What kind of additional trauma is this inflicting on him?
I'm so disgusted with the whole thing, and I think it's ridiculous that America is trying to convince Russia to lift the adoption freeze. They should shut up about the whole thing and simply apologize that such horrific parents live in this country.
Who was it that said you need a license to fish but...
